CMC Atrium with Building Map

Claremont McKenna College, Robert Day Sciences Center

Signage, Wayfinding, & Donor Recognition

We developed a comprehensive signage, wayfinding, and donor signage program that aids in navigating the building’s rotating geometry. Our design challenge was to evolve the College’s signage standards into a system capable of orienting users within this non-linear architectural volume. We introduced a new tier of information to the campus toolkit to guide students, faculty, and visitors using integrated building and floor maps. These tools provide essential spatial orientation at key decision points, allowing the unique architecture to remain the focal point while ensuring ease of navigation between laboratories, classrooms, and social spaces.

The material palette for the signage was carefully selected to complement the building’s architectural finishes. The resulting system is both an extension of the CMC brand and an integrated architectural component that reinforces the center’s mission of transparency and interdisciplinary collaboration.
